Introduction Dr. Manoj Chopda

Dr. Manoj Chopda is a renowned & first interventional cardiologist from North & Western Maharashtra

He hails from a small town called Vani in Nashik district & completed his DM cardiology from prestigious JJ hospital Mumbai. All opportunities waiting for him to settle abroad, but he preferred to come back to his own town of Nashik which badly needed interventional cardiologist & be started his practice in Nashik.

While everyone is talking about the prevention and reversal of heart disease in the 21st century India, not much has been spoken about those who continue to die in the city because of the sheer inaccessibility of cardiac care. He was instrumental in setting up a first Cath lab in North Maharashtra in Nashik at Rajebahadur Hospital where he started doing all interventional cardiology procedures for the needy patients of north Maharashtra.

Around one percent of children in India (1 in every 125 babies) are born with a congenital heart defect. There was a time when there was no cure for this and parents were just informed of the inevitable fate of their child. However medical advancements over the past few decades have made it possible for most children suffering from congenital heart disease to live normal lives post timely surgical intervention. However the cost of surgery, which is few lakhs, is out of reach for a large number of people living below the poverty line in India. For such families, the situation remains grim. Recognizing the gap in the health care demand and supply in the country, and determined to ensure that no person dies of heart disease just because they cannot afford treatment, Dr Manoj Chopda took an initiative and started working on that in collaboration with National rural health Mission.

While treating these children not only treatment but also other needs of patients travelling facilities, relative's arrangements staying arrangements are also taken care of by Dr Chopda & his Magnum Heart Institute team free of cost.. Currently he has over 4000 success stories till date in paediatric cardiology.

He had a passion to serve needy patients & especially he wished to treat children with heart diseases & so he started screening children of rural areas, conducted hundreds of camps under the NRHM (National Rural Health Mission) & till date he has screened over 3 lac students for heart diseases & performed over thousands of surgeries which includes pin hole surgeries, device closure surgeries, & is still screening children & treating them.

After serving in various hospitals having Cath labs as an honorary Cardiologist. Under Rajeev Gandhi Jeevan Dai Yojana he performed surgeries in various hospitals which included government super specialty hospital (2500 Cardiac Interventions), charitable Sai Sansthan hospital (7000 Cardiac Interventions), Magnum Heart Institute (more than 3000 Cardic Interventions) & till date he has performed thousands of routine & complicated cardiac procedures & saved the lives.

To offer he has always strived hard to offer latest treatment modalities to his patients & in cardiology. Keeping this in mind be started state of the art Cardiology institute Magnum Heart Institute in 2010. It is a 75 bedded cardiac institute with all the latest equipment which includes:

  • Digital flat panel Technology Cath Lab
  • State of the art ICCU
  • 4 D Echo Cardiography
  • Rota Blatter
  • IVUS (Intravascular Ultrasound)
  • Jointless Laminar flow Hepa filter Modular operation theatre
  • Intra-aortic balloon pump

Hospital caters to poor & needy patients in collaboration with Rajeev Gandhi Yojana.

Whatever he search, found or done by himself, everything he is preserving it in a knowledgeable form by writing in National & international journals and his book. He has published 78 research papers & presented in various countries many of research papers get awarded in Washington (America), Seoul (South Korea) and many more by considering his dedicated research work he has being awarded with Fellowship in cardiology by European society of cardiology & American society of cardiology till date he had completed more than 18 global clinical trials because he was passionate about the research & new drug development. He has organized attended different conferences, seminars, workshops as a delegate.

Dr Chopda delivered several lectures related with heart like "Healthy heart for all", "Listen to your heart", "World Heart Day", "Women and Heart" etc. His motto has always been educate people at large regarding heart care & Heart diseases & he is taking immense efforts by way of conducting public awareness programme, inviting eminent cardiologists & conducting seminars on it.

To make common man aware of functioning of heart & heart diseases he has authored a book called "Hrudaya Rog Ani Apan" in Marathi & English of which record 5, 00,000 copies have been sold till date.

Socially he has a strong binding with newspapers, industrialists, private organizations, like Rotary club, libraries, banks educational sectors etc. He tried to protect & enhance the health of police staff who has of protecting society. He had paid special attention towards senior citizens also.

He has founded & funded many cardiac centers, organized cardiac checkup camps in north Maharashtra to aware the public health. He is aggressively working in Thalassemia Awareness programme organized by Arpan Blood Bank Nashik. His work was honoured by American Cardiology Journal, Maharashtra Rajya Marathi Patrakar Sangh etc. He was awarded as "Business ICON of the year 2014" with the hands of Chief Minister of Maharashtra.

Dr Manoj Chopda apart from a cardiologist a par excellence also a thorough academician & teaching under graduate medical students of DR V N Pawar Medical College as an honorary Cardiologist

He always believe in sharing knowledge & he has been doing this by starting fellowship in Echocardiography & ICCU training at his institute in collaboration with Maharashtra University of Health Science & Post MD (Medicine) students are being trained at Magnum Heart Institute under able guidance of Dr Manoj Chopda.

Apart from his academic & clinical excellence Dr Chopda has expressed his leadership abilities from time to time during his post graduate days he headed the Resident Doctors organization called MARD & now he is heading the Allopath doctor's organization called IMA (Indian Medical Association) as a president Nasik. He was instrumental in voluntary health services offered by members of IMA in recently held Kumbhmela which was attended by over 2 crore people across country. Dr Chopda headed the team of IMA & saved few lives along with routine medical services.

Through the right kind of awareness, timely intervention and financial support, a majority of the heart diseases can be prevented and cured. The time has come to look at a holistic approach to healthcare where prevention and accessibility are addressed simultaneously. We must not only work towards raising awareness about prevention of coronary heart disease, but also should look at making heart care accessible to that section of the society that continues to succumb to illness for no fault of their own.

Children are the future of our country, and we must take all possible steps to ensuring that they live healthy lives. Additionally we must also work towards creating healthy heart environments for them at home, work and play.

Dr. Manoj Chopda found that need of society & genuinely working hard for the betterment of society in all aspects.
